Child-centred learning approach
A nurturing start for your little one
At Somerset Nursery in Glasgow, we've spent over three decades creating a warm, caring place for children from 3 months to three years. Our family runs the nursery for families, focusing on genuine connections and safe, playful learning, backed by transparent nursery fee structures with no hidden costs. You'll find us right in the heart of the city, with a private garden and easy access to Kelvingrove Park for adventure and picnics.
Each age group has its own dedicated space, filled with purposeful activities that ignite curiosity and build confidence. Whether your child is painting in the Baby Room, dressing up in the Toddler Room, or exploring language in the Tweenie Room, every day is packed with discovery. This includes structured mealtimes featuring our freshly prepared nutritious menus designed to fuel their active growth. At Somerset Nursery, your child gets the freedom to learn at their pace, surrounded by encouragement and laughter.
Our rooms
Baby room
Our Baby Room offers a bright, welcoming and nurturing space for babies aged 3 months to three years. Designed to support early development, the room includes activities and play equipment that encourage creativity, coordination, manipulation, language development and sensory exploration. Older babies are encouraged to enjoy painting, glueing and baking, while water play, sand play and other natural materials are introduced through the weekly activity programme. Babies also enjoy daily outdoor experiences in local spaces such as Kelvingrove Park, the library, the museum and nearby play parks. Regular visits to the sensory room give little ones the chance to explore textures, lights and heuristic play in a calm, engaging environment.

Toddler rooms
Our Toddler Rooms provide a warm, friendly and welcoming environment where children can confidently explore new activities and experiences every day. With access to more challenging resources, toddlers are encouraged to develop their learning through large construction materials, dressing up, jigsaws and shape sorters. Messy play sessions help to spark creativity and strengthen social skills, while outdoor learning continues through regular visits to local parks, libraries and the Kelvingrove Art Galleries. This balanced approach supports early years development through play, discovery and hands-on learning.
Tweenie room
The Tweenie Room is a lively and stimulating space where children are surrounded by conversation and new language throughout the day, helping to build strong communication skills. Our flexible Tweenie planning includes a wide range of activities that support all areas of development while also adapting to the children’s changing interests. Children enjoy being active through daily outings to Kelvingrove Park, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Children’s Woods, the Riverside Museum and the Mitchell Library. They also love planting flowers, fruit and vegetables in the garden, giving them valuable opportunities to learn through nature, movement and play.
